The Mitchell County Historical Museum is one of seven sites owned and operated by the Mitchell County Historical Society. The Historical Society established a Museum in 1966, originally located in the Cedar Valley Seminary building (commonly known as “Old Main”) at the corner of Mechanic Street and 6th Street in Osage, Iowa. The museum’s mission is to keep alive an active interest in Mitchell County history by collecting, preserving and interpreting artifacts, books, papers, records and other materials relative to the county’s history. Currently, the Historical Museum cares for over 10,000 items, including one of the largest clothing collections in Iowa. Visitors to the new museum will experience a walk down “Main Street Mitchell County 1855-1910.” In addition to viewing the Main Street Exhibit, visitors will also have a chance to experience the “Harry Conklin Museum, birthplace of the Conklin Company, Inc.” For more information, please go to www.mitchellcountyhistoricalsociety.org. Pictured to the left is a portion of the “Harry Conklin Museum.” The main feature of the display is the original “factory” which began in his garage in Osage.
